Hey, ik ben Laura en het afgelopen jaar had ik de eer om namens DAS in de Universiteitsraad te zitten. In de raad was ik co-voorzitter van de commissie FPB, welke zich voornamelijk bezig houdt met beleidsstukken over management en financiën. Als onderdeel van de klankbordgroep van het Lange Termijn Strategisch Huisvestingsplan (LTSH), vond ik dit in het bijzonder een erg interessant document. Afgelopen jaar is het nieuwe LTSH voor de komende tien(!) jaar tot stand gekomen. Dit plan focust zich op de faciliteiten op onze prachtige campus. Door een kritische blik op de prioritering van de verschillende projecten voor het verbeteren van de faciliteiten, hebben wij als DAS een hoge prioriteit voor extra projectruimtes, meer studieplekken en betere sportfaciliteiten in de komende jaren kunnen bewerkstelligen. Wat ik erg leuk vond aan dit proces was dat we intensief contact hadden met verschillende personen, van sportverenigingen tot de deelnemers van de koepel overleggen, waardoor we zoveel mogelijk studenten konden vertegenwoordigen in deze prioritering. 

Een ander, erg belangrijk, beleidsstuk dat we afgelopen jaar hebben besproken is Shaping 2030, de nieuwe strategie van de UT. Als fractie konden we kritische vragen stellen, waardoor we verzekerd werden dat wij, als studenten, niet vergeten zouden worden in de praktische zaken rondom dit document. Naast mijn rol in de raad zelf, was ik verantwoordelijk voor contact met een aantal andere partijen. Een daarvan was de Gemeente, waarmee ik elke cyclus een overleg had over punten die voor beide partijen mogelijk interessant waren. Daarnaast was ik het contactpersoon voor de internationale koepel, UNITE, met wie ik gewerkt heb om de relatie tussen DAS en de internationale community te versterken. Ook was ik het contactpersoon voor sport, wat afgelopen jaar vooral ging over de prioritering van de LTSH projecten en het brainstormen over de creatie van een nieuwe sport koepel.

Hey, I’m Laura and during the past year, I had the honor to be seated in the University Council on behalf of DAS. Within the council, I was co-chair of the committee FPB, which focuses mainly on documents and policies regarding management and finance. As part of the sounding group of the Long-Term Strategic Housing plan (LTSH), I particularly found this a very interesting document. This year, the new LTSH for the upcoming 10(!) years was established. This plan focuses on the facilities on our beautiful campus. By giving a critical note on the prioritization of the different projects for improving the facilities, we as DAS ensured a high priority for extra project rooms, more study places, and better sports facilities in the upcoming years. What I really liked about this process was that we had intensive contact with different people, from sports associations to attendees of the meetings of the umbrella associations, to be able to represent as many students in this prioritization as possible.

Another policy that was very important that was discussed in the last year was Shaping 2030, the new strategy of the UT. As a faction, we were able to ask critical questions which ensured that we as students were not forgotten in the practicalities surrounding this document. Outside of my role in the council itself, I was responsible for the contact with some other parties. One of those was the municipality, with whom I had a meeting every cycle about issues that might interest both parties. Moreover, I was the contact person for the international umbrella, Unite, with whom I worked to strengthen the relationship between DAS and the international community, as well as the contact person for sports, which regarded primarily the prioritization of the LTSH projects and brainstorming about the creation of a new sports umbrella.
