Gijs Keizers

It was only after I started at university, that I have been discovering, in depth, the possibilities that the student city of Enschede has to offer. For example, I have started playing hockey at DHC Drienerlo, I registered as a member of Audentis and I have been given the opportunity to experience the tight comradery within the student houses of Enschede at the beautiful Huize ‘t Pott. This is how I found out how important these influences are both at academic as social level.

Some of the biggest developments you will go through as a person are experienced during your student time, that is why this time is considered to be the best time of your life. The University of Twente offers a big variety of facilities that help you to get the most out of your student time. However,  we have seen partial limitation of the freedom that is offered to students, to make use of these facilities, in the form of the introduction of TOM. This new model has caused the study load increase significantly. And the worse of all is that this arrangement holds back the student in his self-development, which is of the utmost importance for future academics.

This leads to my profound impulse to help give the students of Enschede a chance to opt for extracurricular activities without having to compromise their study results. From participating in sports at a high level to working on two bachelor degrees at the same time, we feel that every form of personal development should be encouraged. DAS (The Ambitious Student) is committed to convert this philosophy into practice via the University Council. Vote for ambition, vote DAS!
